My Long Week

This is by far my longest post yet! My week seemed pretty much the same as every other week but sometimes it is the little things that I want to remember. Plus, Sunday was Mother’s Day and I feel so blessed to have become a Mom this past year. Carson is such a cute little boy and I love him so much. Even though there are so many things that I do wrong or not exactly right, I feel like this is definitely my calling in life! Maybe I just tell myself that because I love it so much... who knows!
Sunday May 4, 2008
We all hung around the house until church at 1. Carson didn’t have a very good day at church he was hyper and cranky… not a good combination. We came home and my Dad and Ethan came over at about 5:30 for dinner. We had ribs, rolls, and salad and then I made bazookies for dessert. Carson ate in his reclined high chair and went to bed at about 8. He woke up quite a few times throughout the night coughing. He didn’t want to go back to sleep he just wanted me to hold him. As soon as I put him down he would cry. I finally just put his pacifier in his mouth and he went to sleep. He really is having a hard time sleeping. He doesn’t wake up hungry but he wakes himself up rolling around in his crib. He also has been a little sick lately. Probably due to the two bottom teeth that are so close to making their entrance!
Monday May 5, 2008
Woke up at 7:30 when Carson did. Carson and I ate breakfast and went to Staples with my Dad. Carson took 3 long naps. He also tried prunes for the first time and loved them. I archived and backed-up my pictures and videos. Travis had a final presentation for school in the afternoon and got home about 3. We went to Oregano’s to eat dinner. The weather was perfect to sit on the patio. It was a little cloudy and windy but not too warm. We came home and gave Carson a bath so he could roll around on the carpet naked.

How could you not let him?? Carson went to bed at about 8, my dad went to bed at about 10, Travis at about 11 and I stayed up and played with photoshop and digital scrapbooking until about 1 am… big mistake for the next day.
Tuesday
Took Dad to the airport at about 7:15 and Travis and Carson slept in. Came home and called the doctor to discuss Carson’s cough (that sounds so serious… “discuss”). Travis had to go take a final at about 2 and Carson had to go to the doctor at 2:40. After the doctor we ran some errands at Ace Hardware, Trader Joe’s, and the yogurt place by Deseret Book. I went over there because of the teacher supply store right next door. I wanted to look at some flash cards. Well, I got a little too excited about the yogurt and I got that first, then when I went next door the sign on the door said no food or drink. My 24 oz yogurt was heaping over the sides and melting quickly so I just went home without going to the teacher store. Travis tried to get Chipotle for dinner but the line was out the door so I made fajitas. Carson fell asleep while we were watching American Idol and was in bed by 7:45. Travis was studying and I stayed up until 11:30 downloading scrapbook paper and watching the 3 episodes of Dancing With The Stars. Again… big mistake for the next day.
Wednesday
Woke up so tired, couldn’t keep my eyes open all morning. I put Carson back to sleep right after he ate and went back to bed also. Travis had his last final at 7:40 so he was up at like 5. When I woke back up at 9 I still couldn’t stay awake. It wasn’t time for Carson to eat yet, so I put him in his activity center and layed on the couch. I kept dozing off so I finally got up and made Carson some food. He had rice cereal mixed with butternut squash for breakfast (I guess it was brunch). Travis got home at about 10 and was so hungry for lunch. That is when I realized that since he used all of the milk and oj in the morning I hadn’t eaten anything yet. I hadn’t had a drink yet either and I was hungry. So we got Taco Bell for lunch at 11:30. Sooo good, Bacon Club Chalupas!! It was weird eating lunch so early. I usually don’t eat lunch until about 1 or 2, especially when I wake up at 9. That threw my whole day off. Carson took 4 naps today! He was happy all day! I guess I would be too if I got that much sleep. We played a game where Travis said an animal and I tried to act it out and Carson thought is was so funny! He was laughing so hard and then when Travis would try to make the noise he just looked at him. Muahaha! I played around on photoshop and doing digital scrapbooking all day (while Carson was napping) and at about 6 when we had just finished eating Travis walked by and hit the power button on my computer! I was soooo mad. I was in the middle of a bunch of stuff and he just got bored and needed attention. He couldn’t stop laughing, however I did not share the enthusiasm. I was mad. So I didn’t talk to him for about half an hour and then got over it. Carson went to bed at about 8 and we watched Jason Castro get kicked off of American Idol. I made pizza for dinner because that is what I do on Wednesdays. We didn’t have enough cheese so I ran to the store just to get that. I went to Safeway because it was closer than anything else. A 16 oz. bag of mozzarella cheese was $7.59!! Can you believe that? I hate Wal-Mart but that is why I go there… that is ridiculous! The pizza was good! Travis went to church to play basketball and then played XBOX all night because he is done with school. Travis and I both ended up going to bed at about 1:45. There are some birds outside our apt. that have day/night confusion… they must be newborns. They were chirping so I remember not being able to fall asleep because they were so loud.
Thursday
Obviously, the morning came way too quickly. I woke up with bloodshot eyes that wouldn’t stop watering. Carson woke up very hungry. I went to Kristy Palmer’s for a Visiting Teaching Brunch and got to talk with Kristy, Deana, Keri, and Chenille about the things we liked about this last General Conference. It was a good time, except for when we got on the topic of scorpions… ick! Seriously, when my Dad and Ethan were in town we got on that topic then too. Ewww, it gives me goose bumps just thinking about them! Anyway, then I came home and Travis and I decided to grab some lunch at Texas Roadhouse. When we go there our total bill is $7.06 and we leave totally full. We love that place. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open so we went to On The Border where our total bill was less than $8, so it all worked out in the end! When we came home Carson was hungry and tired. So I fed him and put him in bed and he fell right asleep. I decided to take a nap too and went to bed at about 1:30. I woke up at 5:45. It fell so good to get in a really good nap. I am thankful for such an awesome husband who didn’t even try to wake me up, just got Carson out of bed. Also, when I woke up from my nap Travis had cleaned! Wow. Thursday was his first day of no school and I think he is getting pretty bored being at home. Wednesday he kept saying “I don’t know how you stay home all day” because he was really bored! Travis and I ate dinner and Carson went to bed at about 7:45. Lately he has really been loving his crib. As soon as we take him in there and put him down he just relaxes. He will be out in the living room and he just starts whining and crying and you pick him up and put him in there and he plays until he falls asleep. Usually rolls around all over the place and falls asleep in some crazy position. It is so cute. Another thing that Carson has been doing lately is lifting up on his arms, my brother called it “doing the Cobra”. He also is getting better at sitting up. I think it looks so cute when he tries to sit because his head is so big and his shoulders are so little!
Friday
Carson has really been waking up pretty early lately. I think maybe some of the reason is that it is getting light so much earlier. And the later we put him to bed the earlier he wakes up it seems like. So we try to get him in bed by 8 so he can get the sleep he needs. Friday was a fun day! Carson was in a good mood… mostly. Travis went to lunch with his friend Jesse and then they came back here to look for jobs. Carson and I just hung out and ate lunch together. I had macaroni and Carson had formula and a new food… bananas! He liked them. So far he has liked everything that we have tried feeding him. He is just happy to be eating. After lunch Trisha and her sister-in-law Megan came over to hang out for about an hour before they had to be at a graduation. We just talked. After that I met my friend, Brittany at Michael’s to get some scrapbooking things. She got scrapbooking things, I got Rolo’s! Then we went to her place for a while to work on scrapbooking. Again, she scrapbooked, I played around on the internet. Then all of us, Brittany and Ben, Travis, Carson and I all went to Red Robin to eat dinner. The smells were fantastic outside but it wasn’t coming from Red Robin it was coming from the Krispy Kreme store that is reopening soon! Then we decided to be rockstars and watch the last Indian Jones movie to prepare ourselves for the new one coming out. Travis and Carson both fell asleep and we ate bazookies and had a good time hanging out with our friends.
Saturday
Carson woke up late today!! He slept in until about 7:00 and went back down for a nap by 9. Travis went to play basketball in the morning and I decided to take a nap too. Ethan called and wanted to take us out to see his house and then to lunch. We got to see his house and take pictures and then we went and ate at Chipotle and just hung out for a while. Carson slept through the ride and lunch. I finally decided to do some grocery shopping and went to Wal-Mart while Carson was napping at about 3:30. I came home to a quiet apartment (Travis and Carson were both sleeping) and put away groceries, cleaned and spent some time on the computer. Trisha, Brian and Logan came over later for a night of Cranium! I had an allergy attack, so I took some Benadryl and was tired. Travis drank a Pepsi (which he never does) and was so hyper and wired during Cranium. And neither Carson nor Logan felt like going to bed. But besides all of that we actually had a lot of fun! After they went home I stayed up until about 1 because by that time the Benadryl had worn off and I wanted to play on the computer. Travis stayed up all night playing XBOX. I have no clue when he went to bed… he said like 6 am.
Sunday, May 11, 2008Mother’s Day
I woke up with Carson, even though I was hoping for Travis to since it was Mother’s Day and all. It was fine though, Carson was really good and happy and went back to bed pretty quickly. Travis woke up and played around with Carson for a little bit before his nap. Travis (and Carson) wrote me a really nice Mother’s Day card. It was so sweet. I think last year I told Travis he doesn’t have to get me things, but he can just write a nice note. It finally hit him! He did get me something anyway. He got me a Willow Tree figurine with a mom and a dad and they are holding a little baby! I love it!
He put the box in a gift bag and when I opened it, it kind of felt empty. So I looked around and said “did you take it out of the box just like last year??” And he was disappointed because he didn’t realize that he had done that last year. Last year he got me the Willow Tree figurine that is the pregnant lady. I told him he could just get me those every year and that would be fine and I would get him a new tie every year for Father’s Day! It seems like that could make it boring but I think it makes things easy. Let’s be honest, sometimes things have to be very specific for Travis!! I mean that in a nice endearing way, of course! Anyway, we had a good time hanging out before church and had a good time at church. Carson slept through almost all of the 2 hours of Primary. That always makes things easier. As soon as we came home we changed and fed Carson and got some things ready and went over to Travis’ parents house. We had a Mother’s Day dinner. Trisha, Brian, Travis and I made dinner for his mom so she could just relax and not worry about anything. Trisha and Brian did most of the work, so thanks to them, and everything turned out really tasty. After we all helped clean up we played Cranium (boys against girls) and they won:( We came home to a really, really messy apartment for some reason and just hung out a little bit before bed.
Like many others have said, it was definitely a nice day to celebrate motherhood and womanhood! I love my mom so much and am so incredibly grateful for all the things she does for me. She is THE most unselfish person I know and she is a wonderful listener. I still talk to her pretty much every single day and am so happy that we have a wonderful relationship. I also give props to my sister! She has always been my big sister, obviously, and I have always looked up to her. When we were little I used to go to bed at 7 and leave the light on for her, even though she was like 17 and didn’t go to bed until 11. I loved sharing a room with her and cried when she moved out… even though it was a couple blocks away! She is another wonderful example in my life. She is the mother of 4 boys (soon to be 5) and teaches them so much! I can’t wait to see her whole family in a couple of days! Also, all of the many family members who are awesome moms and wonderful women, I love you so much! Through marriage, I have added quite a few family members that I wouldn’t trade for the world. They all are examples to me in so many different ways. Trisha, Mindy, Torie, Lisa, Carla, Tammy, Tiffany, Tracy, Michelle, Krissa and yes Trina, too (who else would inappropriately touch my butt every time I go to Travis’ parents house?). And I know this sounds like I am just going on and on, but I am also so very thankful for the many wonderful friends in my life… moms or not! They are all great women!

Emily, that is the longest most awesomest post ever! Haha. I love hearing about your week & am happy that some people can't get their eyes to open before 9:00 besides me. I totally need a lesson in digital scrap booking, I think it looks so fun but have no idea where to start. I also love your figurines. I have 2 of them, a mom holding a baby & a dad holding a baby. I think having a tradition of collecting them would be great! Cute picture of you & Rachel, I can't believe she almost has 5 kids!
