I Am Trying To Save And Not Spend

When Travis and I first got married we were really good at making a budget and sticking to it. Well, lately we have discovered that we don't really even have a budget anymore. And believe me we should. Now that I don't work and Travis is looking for a job we really need a budget to stick to. So we decided that we are totally going to do it and quit eating out (that will be the hardest part for me, I looooovvveee to eat out and have people wait on me). I will definitely admit that I don't even talk about things I want or feel like we need, with Travis. I just go and get them. So I am changing my ways, starting a few days ago. It is hard but kind of fun. I love finding a cheap way to do anything, I love ad-matching at Wal-Mart and using coupons for things. I changed our power plan to try to save money, I just don't go anywhere because gas is too expensive, and I make menus for grocery shopping... and I don't go when I am hungry! If anyone has any clever ideas on little ways that they save money let me know (besides the whole, just don't go anywhere and spend any money... ever, because I have a feeling that will be really hard for long term)! Or if you guys have little cheap ways to reward yourselves for not spending money, seriously... clue me in!

Good luck! Our budget is:
Paycheck - tithing & F.O.
- house payment
- other bills
whatever is left we buy food & gas. When it's gone, it's gone. Luckily Lorin has a 401k & an IRA or we wouldn't be saving anything at all - ever.

I try to wait until I NEED gas & food at the same time to go out - that's about the only tip I have for you. I also try to keep the gas tank half full to save on mileage.

We went out to eat tonight & it was like the first time in FOREVER, I really missed it. So I know how you feel. The longer you go without it, the easier it is. Maybe if you stick to your budget for a whole month then you can go out to eat as a reward - not the cheapest reward, but it's a baby step. :)

I don't always call Lorin either before I buy something (like today!) & we used to have an agreement that if something was more than $5 we had to call & discuss it. That worked for like a day. So just know you aren't alone!
