Porter is another month older. He is now 14 months old and is so much fun (he always has been). He is 22.6 lbs and 31 inches tall. He was only in the 25th percentile for weight and 70th for height. He had quite a drop in both of those percentiles but he is still gaining weight and getting taller, just not so rapidly. So the doctor wasn’t concerned.
Porter has quite the little attitude and knows exactly what he wants. He still “talks” a lot but the only thing that really sounds like real words is “Dada” and “Mama”. And I am not even sure he uses them appropriately, he kind of just babbles them into his conversations.
Porter is starting to finally eat food and loves milk. He hates formula and plain water now. He also finally let go of the bottle and will drink out of sippy cups. But two specific ones that have a soft spout, similar to a bottle. He has tried regular ones and gets very frustrated and tosses the cup. With food he is very picky. He will only eat pureed fruits, and will pry his mouth shut when a vegetable is put in front of him. He looks at and smells every single spoonful of stuff coming his way. He does love yogurt too. He is picky with finger foods. He loves whole wheat bread (plain or with cream cheese or jam on it) and loves all types of crackers and cereal. But hates any real fruit that is cut up, any vegetable, and anything else that looks different. He won’t even try them and immediately tosses them on the floor. Oh and he loves chips of any kind and if he sees the bag he won’t eat anything but that. Great!
Porter loves book just as much, if not more, than Carson did at his age. He can be anywhere and if you ask him if he wants to read a book he goes right to the basket and pulls out the ones he likes. Right now his favorites are “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “Goodnight Moon”, “That’s Not My Dinosaur”, “ABC’s”, and “Beyond Bethlehem”. He picks up the book looks at it to see if it is the right one and either tosses it aside to grab another, or brings it to you to read it to him.
Now that he finally gets to see Wrigley (his stuffed Build-A-Bear that he got from his cousins), because Carson lets him, he loves him. As soon as I put him in his crib he goes to the corner to tackle and snuggle with Wrigley. When he wakes up from his naps, Wrigley is either on the floor because Porter threw him out, or he has his shirt halfway off. Who knows?
Porter just got 2 molars last Friday night, April, 30, 2010. They finally poked their way through. We kept thinking the random nights that he would wake up that he was getting teeth, but he has had the same 8 teeth (top and bottom middle 4) since early November. Then the night they actually come through he didn’t make a peep. I think we like to put a reason on his waking up, and it is always teething. We obviously don’t know anything.
I am pretty sure that Porter’s favorite place to be is outside. If you are holding him and even go close to the door, and then walk away he gets so upset. If you go outside without him, he gets really mad. When I put on my flip flops he follows me around with his arms in the air and wants me to pick him up (and not leave without him). He already knows how to open the front door and so many times during the day I find him sitting right by the sliding glass doors staring outside through the blinds.
He is very mischievous. As soon as the trash can, dishwasher, pantry door or bathroom door open he is right there in a couple of seconds. Those are his favorite places to play. He loves to throw toys in the bathtub but when he tries to get them out he gets stuck on his head with his feet in the air. We NEVER leave water in there. He is just too quick. He also loves to play on Carson’s bed. He climbs up there and sits down and scoots to the edge so his feet can dangle. Then he just kicks them and sits there and babbles and laughs.
Porter also adores anything having to do with Carson. Any toy that Carson likes, Porter likes. Anywhere that Carson goes, Porter wants to go. When Carson is jumping around, Porter bends down like he is getting ready to jump, but doesn’t (hasn’t quite figured that out yet).
Yesterday, Porter just got his first pair of shoes since he learned to walk. Yeah, better late than never. We are cheap and let our kids be barefoot until they are halfway steady. I put them on him last night and he was so mad at first. He just stood there and didn’t move for a couple of minutes. He is just like Carson, though, if you tell him how awesome his shoes are then he smiles and starts to like them. He practiced walking around for a while and was so slow and funny looking. I love it. He has always loved carrying around everybody else’s shoes, so now he has his own to play with.
He is very, very scared of loud noises, like people yelling, the vacuum and the blender. HATES all those! He follows you around crying because he wants to be picked up.
Porter goes with me to watch Carson at swim lessons every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It is only 30 minutes, but he sits there and just watches everyone. Sometimes he wants some goldfish as a snack but most of the time he is so content and happy.
Porter has the most adorable pout when you tell him no. He puts his head down, gets an enormous frown and bats his eyes at you. Then he walks over to you and puts his head down. I know it sounds horrible but sometimes we tell him no because it is so stinking cute and we want him to come cuddle with us.
Porter gets wrestled with a lot by Carson and that is getting better. I think that most of the time they are just playing, but right now Carson is so much bigger and stronger. Porter has finally started to take toys away from Carson when he wants them (after they have been taken away from him). I am just waiting for the day that he can really hold his own against Carson. Carson is going to be surprised.
Porter is my little buddy. You can always get a smile from him and he has the cutest smile that takes up his whole face and moves his whole body. If you just give him some attention then he loves you. I have noticed that he especially likes older women. I don’t know if it is the way they talk to him or what, but he will stand there and stare and smile and babble at them anytime. He even bats his eyes at them. He is already a major flirt. So not like his Mom or his Dad.
Porter brings smiles to my face every time I see him. He is just about the happiest kid I know and I think that the little things that he does are just so hilarious. He has spunk and I love it! I don’t want him to grow up too quickly, but sure am enjoying watching it happen! I love you, Porter!

What a cool little guy Porter is! My sister has two boys, and I just love how much they LOVE each other. I think that is the best part about having children close in age!
You sure do have your hands full...in a good way! How are you feeling? How many weeks are you now?
What a doll! Yep, Porter is going to be a tough boy, and Carson will be surprised!!! When Ryan, my middle one took his older brother down, it was a disappointment for him! Glad you are enjoying him, and I can't believe he is growing to quickly!
Porter is just so cute. I loved the way he would come up to us at Rachel's house, stare and then smile. He smiles with his whole face. He has to learn to be a tough little guy because Carson is bigger and stronger. I am so excited to see them soon.
I can't believe how fast they are growing. I love Porter's pout - priceless. It's crazy how much the boys look alike.
Oh Popo, he's such a happy boy! You guys are lucky parents! Two beautiful boys. I can't wait to see the third one!
