Catching Up

8/12/11

A couple of weeks ago we went to Tonto Natural Bridge with another family from our ward.  It was a nice little hike and a cool thing to see.  But it was still hot.  Travis and Carson walked down under the actual bridge (I stayed back with Porter and Hudson since it was climbing on rocks and stuff).  They played around in the water.  I didn't have my camera, but this is one that Joe took of Carson and Keelie.  They are the same age and in the same Primary class.
After we were done with the hike, we ate peanut butter sandwiches ("we" meaning the kids, because just the smell of peanut butter pretty much makes me want to vomit) and sat around.  The kids found a little stream that was probably a foot wide.  They managed to get completely soaked and we had no extra clothes for them.  Oh and also, Hudson puked in the car on the way down, we think he got carsick from the curvy road.  So Hudson and Porter only had diapers on the whole way home and Carson had on clothes that were sopping wet, he could  barely walk.  We also decided to eat at El Rancho in Payson on the way home.  It was pretty stinkin' good.  But again, two kids in only diapers at a restaurant? Total white trash. We had a fun little Saturday morning.

Last week we had another playdate with the not-so-little-babies from the ward.  The first picture was last week, the second picture was last September when we did the first playdate.  In the first picture it looks like Hudson and Abby don't want cooties from each other.  (Sidenote:  Did you ever play 'Cootie' as a kid? Where you put together a caterpillar-type thing?  I used to love that game.)  There were a couple different kids in each picture, we have yet to get one with everyone!  I think Hudson missed the picture the second time around.  And it was a bit more crazy now that they are all moving and independent!

Hudson was the only one that wouldn't sit down.  Of course, he was the only one without something in his hand, I think.  Amateur.

Carson enjoying the pool and the big, fast waterslide that he must have gone down 50 times.

Last weekend we went to Lake Havasu for a little weekend get-away.  Obviously not from the heat since it was 117 or something there on Saturday.  We went with another family.  One of Travis' good friends, Courtney and his family.  It was pretty hot and Friday night was brutal because Carson didn't want to go to bed and he woke up the other two boys at about 11pm.  We were all in this little room and all 3 of them were screaming.  Porter and Hudson were scared and Carson was yelling and laughing.  I was so mad.  He was bouncing off the walls in that room and couldn't calm down.  Also he could reach the latch on the door to get out and run down the hall.  Yeah, seriously, that annoyed me.  Why would a hotel/resort put a latch on a door that a 3 year old can reach?  I guess it is probably more so people don't get in but seriously, think about it?  It sucked.  But we all finally got to bed and on Saturday morning, I realized that Travis had brought his laptop and streaming Netflix did the trick during down time.
Friday night we went out to eat and then Travis and Carson went swimming while I put the other 2 to bed.  Then first thing Saturday morning we went to the beach.  The kids loved the beach.  Carson especially loved driving  the jet ski and using Hudson's float as a kickboard.  Porter loved the playground and drinking the lake water, which I tried not to get him to do.  Especially after the homeless guy took a bath in it about 10 feet from us, with a cigarette in his mouth the whole time.  Sick.  And Hudson just loved kicking and splashing but got pretty tired.  Travis took Carson and Porter on the jet ski and then Courtney took 2 of his boys. Travis said Carson wanted to steer the whole time and Porter didn't move or laugh or anything.  He was probably totally scared.

In the afternoon, Hudson, Porter and Travis took a nap while I took Carson down to the water slide that he wouldn't stop talking about.  I went first and it went pretty fast, I thought he would come out scared.  Yeah right.  We went back upstairs and got the others to come play for the rest of the afternoon.  It was also the first time we put floaties on Porter.  He cried when we tried to put them on, but when he finally figured out how to use them he loved it.  He asked to get out of the pool about 2 hours later when our fingers and toes were all wrinkled.

Carson and Porter trying to dry off.

Nobody really got sunburned, thank goodness.  But Carson's and Porter's faces had these red spots under their eyes and on their noses.  Carson's even had finger marks.   Apparently, I am horrible at applying sunscreen.

I got Porter's swim shorts at JCPenney last week for $1.78.  Sweet!  AND his favorite color is orange.  He insists on wearing it.

I didn't get a picture of the waterslide, but this shows the end of it.  It was pretty big and scary for a 3 year old, but Carson sure had a blast.  I think Hudson is getting ready to splash in this picture.  Since he was in the lake and pool all day saturday, he got in plenty of splashing time.  Now when we give him baths he goes crazy and gets the whole bathroom wet.  Carson was cracking up because he was getting splashed.

Friday night we went out to dinner to this Steakhouse that was in the middle of nowhere and way too overpriced.  None of use were very happy with the food and I was very parched (which means I didn't get refills, which is a huge no-no in my book).  BUT I am in love with this picture of Carson and Travis.  He is so cute... sometimes... when he isn't yelling at the top of his lungs... at midnight... and waking everyone up.

Porter and Daddy, Popo in his new favorite orange shirt.  Yet another JCPenney find for $1.78

I didn't want to put this picture in, but Hudson is in it. Isn't he the sweetest?!

Hudson puts one foot over the tray on the stroller, just like Carson and Porter both did at his age.  I don't know why but that cracks me up.
The next morning before we left town, we went down to the real London Bridge.  I guess they took it apart and sent it to Lake Havasu City, AZ and reassembled it.  I didn't really get it.  Why did they pick there out of all places?

Our attempt at a family picture.  Did I mention it was really hot there?  I was sweaty and gross and ready to go home.  But aren't those boys so handsome?

A fun trip.  Even the car ride when Carson decided to sing all of his children's songs at the top of his lungs over our music for most of the car ride.  Hudson and Porter fell asleep.  Then Carson said, "Porter, wake up, we are here! CockADoodleDoo, Porter!"  It was pretty cute.

When we got home we gave the kids much needed baths (since they didn't get any all weekend) and set up the fish tent and let them watch a movie.
