Yesterday we had a birthday party for Porter. He picked out some friends to invite from his nursery class at church. I made the invitation and we took them to the kids last week. He loved being able to get out of the car at everyone's house. He was upset when a couple of people weren't home the first day. I think he thought he was going inside to play.
We put an invitation on the fridge and every day he pointed to it and said "It's my birthday party!" I really think he thought the actual invitation was a birthday party. Who knows what is going on in his little head sometimes. When I woke him up Thursday morning, I told him it was the day of his party and his friends would be coming over soon. He asked "Do I wear my 3 shirt?" He was excited about it --neon orange shirt, orange shoes.
My goal was to have this party be very low-key and just let Porter have some kids over to play. So the party favors were homemade playdough and a bouncy ball attached to an orange balloon. **Sidenote: Some kids wore the party hats, but by the end of the party we had all of them left. Carson and Porter wanted to have another birthday party in Carson's room yesterday afternoon, so we all wore hats (stuffed animals included) and took turns singing Happy Birthday to everyone.** For the party we blew some bubbles, attempted to play Duck Duck Goose, colored on a big roll of paper, and played with balloons. I had a list of games about a page long but I knew that the kids would mostly just play with the toys. Other kid's toys are always so much fun! Then we ate pizza and breadsticks and some fruit before having some cake.
I made Porter some "really fast race car cupcakes" instead of a cake or regular cupcakes. (I got the idea from my friend, Brittney who made a train cake for her son's birthday.) The inside was rainbow and I used mini oreos for the wheels. Porter could barely keep his eager fingers off of them all morning. Also, I made and frosted the cakes the night before and I think it made them less messy. The frosting was pretty solidified and it seemed to work better than when I make the cupcakes right before a party.
He chose the orange one for candles. We sang Happy Birthday and Ashley helped him blow the candles out.
I love this picture for a few reasons: It is pretty obvious that Ashley is blowing out the candles, Porter is happy about having help, he has drool all over his chin from previous attempts and Hudson is lurking in the background.
Ashley and her mom, Brittani.
Everytime I asked Porter if he wanted to have a birthday party and who he wanted to invite, he would throw his arms in the air and yell "ASHLEY!" So I am glad she could make it.After Porter was done.
I planned on having Hudson take a nap during the festivities, but he was so good and happy so he got to eat pizza and grapes!

Sorry to the moms, all the kids were standing on their chairs. Our chairs don't match the table and are really low and our kids always want to stand up--one of the reasons I am trying to get a new table out of Travis ;)

We said no presents, but Porter did get one. When he opened it, Aspen said "You must love it, Porter." It was hilarious. He does love it. He has been playing with it since and he loves having something that is HIS.
After the party was over.
Carson was excited that one car was left and it just happened to be green.
I just randomly spooned in some colors of batter to make the insides fun. This one was a regular cupcake because I had extra batter that I didn't want to go to waste. I ate this one yesterday afternoon as the kids were napping, and really enjoyed it.
Thanks to everyone who came and the moms that stayed and helped. Porter had a great time!
Porter's turns 3 tomorrow and we are excited to keep celebrating!
